**Considering the fact that Cayden was not even a year old since my last update, he's a completely different child altogether. I'm gonna try and limit it to TOP TEN ...it'll be just whatever comes to my mind. Uh-oh, this should be interesting Heh!!**
- He walks! Ha!! No seriously, let me backtrack. He progressed MUCH faster than Conner in this area and was walking by his first birthday. I guess he pretty much had to learn to keep up with big brother or escape him altogether. He's been a "strategic" climber and will stack whatever is near to get to whatever he wants. :/ Didn't go through that with Conner Man. For starters, he didn't walk until 15 months old.
- On that note, the boys have been vastly different in which milestones they master first. Though Conner wasn't physically active early on, his communication and vocabulary were off the charts!! His little brain was actively computing and soaking in each and every thing it could...it still does to this very day! (Of course being the first child combined with the fact that I was a stay-at-home mom and was constantly all up in his face talking to him about everything--Word for Word probably helped.) With Cayden being the second child and not having to talk much due to big bubby...plus being sent to daycare at 3 months, he didn't have the same experience --he just hears me, David, and Conner talking nonstop which probably sounds like a bunch of gibberish!!! We call Cayden's language - Caydenese!!! It's cute!! :) Although his vocabulary and word bank is limited compared to what Conner Man's was at this point, I refuse to worry about it until he's two. He understands everything we say and will follow through with tasks and such, it's just he doesn't initiate verbal communication. I'm using this time at home with him to make a conscience effort to practice, practice, practice with him and giving him much opportunity to use words to communicate rather than grunting and pointing/screaming....We're also reading LOTS of books plus using all of life's "teachable moments" to introduce/reinforce as much vocabulary possible!!...it's the teacher in me. :) I have already seen TONS of progress just since I've been at home with him.
- Cayden's current word bank at almost 21 months: (Unlike Conner whose words came out more clear...I'll have to translate a few of Cayden's.) cracker, no, mine, hey, bye-bye, tee-tee, poopee, top/"stop", moo/"move", bubby, daddy, momma, ba/"ball", ba/"bear, bubble, EAT (favorite), bol/"bowl", pis/"fish", dawg/"dog", ky/"sky", moon, feet, nose, cup, peas/"please", taytoo/"thank you", hot, CARS (another favorite), book, cheese (for the food and the camera), ow, paci (clear as a bell!!!), boon/"balloon", tiger, cookie, uh-oh, teeth (and LOVES to brush them!), baa/"bath", suuu/"shoe", Mammaw, Pappaw, Poppy, Nonna, Lala, RayRay, Bandy/"Brandy", De (short e)/"Devin", Lele, baby, Ayen/"Amen", yes, waer/"water", tee/"tree", dire/"diaper (Animal sounds: "Moo" for cow --- "CaCaCak" for duck---"SSSSS" for snack----"Rah" for tiger---he whispers "Wooh, Whoo" for a dog
- The boy came into this world loving to EAT and still LOVES to eat to say the least!! All we have to say is, "Cayden go get in your chair...it's time to eat." He then dances into the kitchen singing, "Eat, eat, eat, eat!!!" with pride! He will also go get an empty bowl and come find me saying, "bol...bol...bol....bol..." expecting for me to fill it with some kind of food. This usually ends in complete happiness or a meltdown. Depends on my answer. :/ A few more eating updates: He eats pretty much everything...has been maybe a bit more choosy here lately, but still a very good eater. He cracks me up when he eats stuffed cookies (oreos) or crackers cause the child will pry the thing apart only to eat the middle! Ha!!! A boy knows what he wants.
- Cayden LOVES his daddy!!! Conner was more of a momma's boy (and still is), but Cayden has always gravitated towards David --and men for that matter. He simply lights up when David comes around, he hears his voice, or sees a picture of him. When David gets home from work, he will run up to him as fast as he can screaming (in delight) DADDY!!!!! Now that I've been home with him more, he's established a more affectionate/dependent relationship with me, but Daddy still holds the trump card and is his ultimate FAVORITE, well maybe tied with CONNER!! I can only imagine how Sarah Kate will be with her Dada...a Daddy's girl for sure I suppose. :)
- Cayden has a huge love for music!!! He has impeccable rhythm (he's our little interpretive dancer - I'll post videos soon!!) and actually sings...a lot. He always has a song in his heart- have NO clue what he's singing about, but it couldn't make me happier. He sings the most in the car!
- We've had to start disciplining him more often by popping his little booty, hand and talking stern with him...mostly due to throwing sippy cups/food during dinner, getting into drawers, etc, refusing to leave his nightlight alone, or messing with Conner. (Cayden messing with Conner??? YEP!! He starts a lot of their quarrels...heee!!! My little sneaky instigator!) Overall, he's correctable and still wants to please us...though we've seen a more strong stubborn side come out from time to time, it's nothin' like what we were already dealing with when it came to Conner....our head banger and biter!! Cayden's yet to head bang or bite me. He hit me one time (IN public) not too long ago, but in his defense I was placing him in a highchair and he had a massive diaper rash....these particular episodes were the norm for Conner. :/ Don't miss those moments. Cayden's still pretty much very cooperative...Lord, please see that this stays!!!
- "Calm" Cayden, as I used to refer to him....ummm, negative. Though Cayden's overall easygoing, he has BUSTED out of his quiet/subdued personality and said HELLO WORLD....THIS IS ME!!! He's always on the move and very animated in everything he does. He cracks us up...as well as himself. We've got ourselves another ham!! His facial expressions are beyond hilarious!
- One of his favorite challenges in life is to confiscate the t.v. remotes and bang them on the ground until the batteries pop out....Ha!! He also LOVES cell phones!! (what child doesn't) Toy ones are okay and hold his attention for brief moments, but he eventually gets bored and knows it's not the real thing, so we recently gave him an old one. When he presses the buttons no sounds or lights appear...so what does he do?? It's his new "chunking/hurling" object to try and destroy.
- Cayden's our rough and tough teddy bear...so sweet, adorable, and VERY affectionate but can more than hold his own when it comes to rough housing with Conner and David. He's tough stuff!! Conner came up to us last week and said, "Man...Cayden's getting stronger than me!" THAT'S when we take the time to REMIND Conner about the importance of eating and drinking his milk!!! Cayden packs down the food and we have to beg, manipulate, threaten, and bribe Conner to get his meals in...we use the "strength/muscles" as our #1 tactic! Ha!! Cayden weighs 28lbs...and Conner's slightly around the corner at around 34lbs. Should be interesting as they get older. At this rate little brother aint gonna be so "little"! I would love it if they could wear the same size...sure would aid in putting up laundry. They could just share clothes!!! :) YAY!!! Now I'll have at least something to refer to when trying to remember milestones and specifics on our Little Man!!! Whooo-Hooo!!! Mission accomplished- now to just keep it up!
- Had to add that Cayden still uses his paci (which he calls by name...Conner never named it!!) at night time. When I wake him up in the morning, it's usually not in his crib, and he seems to be fine, so maybe it'll be an easy habit to break. We've just never put him down without one...even for a nap. Gonna work on moving him to Conner's room probably this month, and, much to his dismay, the pacies are not coming with him!! This will be a HUGE transition.
- POTTY TIME: We are not ready to start potty training yet...didn't start that with Conner until he was two and a few months. However, Cayden is sooooo intrigued about the whole potty thing. He will walk up to the toilet and say, "Tee-tee!!" while tugging at his diaper. We simply take off his diaper, he points his little wee-wee at the toilet, and then we put back on his diaper. PRAYING this won't confuse the kid when we actually do start the process. I guess for now he thinks he's a big boy like Conner!! :) ***I'll try to do Conner's update soon....taking it one step at a time.***
